First Name

Employment Status
Employed
Occupation:
composer/musician
Employer:

About Me:
Many years experience as a studio, jazz and classical musician. Composer since 1999. Three cds out: Look Both Ways (innova 541), Otherworld Music (Bel Air Jazz 101) and The Davie Code (Bel Air Jazz 102). Check www.belairjazz.org for details and read "On The Road At 18" to read about what it was like to be a musician with a well-known r&b band in 1960 and "Inside Studio A" for reflections on a career as a studio musician.
Musical Background & Experience:
Studio musician with credits too many to mention. A partial list includes work with Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Shore and hundreds of film composers. Jazz recordings with Sonny Criss, Freddy Hubbard, David Benoit, etc. Worked as a music contractor in film and tv studios and on recordings. Hired the band for Terence Blanchard on his cd Jazz In Film. Classical recordings with Leonard Rosenman, Robert Craft, etc. I am the first, and so far only, person ever to have played more than one of Luciano Berio's Sequenzas. Look Both Ways includes Seq. I (for flute), Seq. VII (oboe) and Seq. IXa (clarinet). The second cd, Otherworld Music, includes pieces by Messiaen and Bach and my jazz companion pieces and features, in a brief excerpt, the Bach Aria Group. The most recent cd is The Davie Code. To find out more about The Davie Code please visit www.belairjazz.org and go to the contest page.

Why I love jazz:
It allows me to be what I want to be.
Music:
I don't know why I love music, I just always have.
Top 5 Desert Island Discs:
Impossible! Something by the Bach Aria Group for sure. Stokowski. Heifetz. Art Tatum and Don Byas. Plas Johnson and Sonny Criss. Duke. Bird, Hawkins, Webster, Ted Nash (actually both of them), Rich Perry, Bill Kirchner, Jason Moran, Johnny Griffin, Sonny Rollins, Jane Ira Bloom, Louis Armstrong, Pres and others. Wait that's more than five. Like I said, impossible.

Looking forward to recordings by: Chelsea Baratz, Linus Benesevicius, Arin Canbolat, Brian Clements, Alexi David, Andrew Hadro, Marty Isenberg, Dan Kleffmann, Paget Knebel, Mark Limacher, Mike McGarril, Alyssa Menendez, Matt Miller, Taka Odaka, Maiko Ono, Jack Ramsey, Angelo Spagnolo, Seiju Yang, Jose Valente, Alexander Yellen.
Books:
Dubliners (James Joyce). Stokowski: A Counterpoint of View (Oliver Daniel). The Bach Reader. The Most of S.J. Perelman. Heifetz As I Knew Him (Ayke Agus).
Television:
A waste of time with very few exceptions. I don't have cable, so there are even fewer exceptions for me.
Movies:
A Night At The Opera, A Day At The Races, both with the Marx Brothers. The Green Man (the one with Alastair Sim, not the remake). Actually anything with Alastair Sim.

Hi David,

Yes, Gabor is/was my father. He founded the Alma Trio with Adolph Baller (pianist). It sounds very exciting what you are playing and recording. I would love to hear more from you!

Well, it's great to talk with the other alto player from Sonny's dream! He's was one heck of an alto player. I recently found some videos of YouTube of him playing.
Thanks!
