In 2009,Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland will be “Celebrating 30 Years of Jazz” in Northeast Ohio! From its beginnings as a two day event in May of 1980, JazzFest has grown into a year-round jazz educational organization that culminates in a multi-day festival every April, becoming the largest music festival in Ohio and the largest educational jazz festival in the country. For 30 years, Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland has presented legendary artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Miles Davis, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Gregory Hines and hundreds more, attracting nearly 1 million people, of which 300,000 were students. Each year the attendance for live events and educational activities ranges from 30,000 to 40,000 attendees and an additional 200,000 persons hear live interviews and performances aired on WCPN 90.3 FM, Cleveland’s National Public Radio affiliate. The Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland 25th Anniversary was a record-breaking year, attracting over 50,000 festival attendees and the 2009 Festival plans to be another milestone year.
