First Name
Rick

Berklee College of Music (BM 1980), Queens College (MA 1991)
I am here for:
Gigs, Job Inquiries, Educational Purposes, Meet Players, Networking
Whom I want to meet:
Musicians, students, artists, photographers, web-designers, entertainment buyers, a good agent :-)
Employment Status
Employed
Occupation:
Jazz guitarist, composer, educator
Employer:
Self Employed but also Hofstra University, Jazzmobile & Brooklyn Conservatory of Music
About Me:
I'm a full-time jazz musician and teacher. Aside from music, my interests include photography and video, graphic arts, web-design, gardening, home-improvement, vegetarian cooking, and my family.

I live here in Brooklyn where I've built a small home studio and an amazing garden (which becomes my outdoor practice room in the warmer months).
Musical Background & Experience:
I've been teaching and performing in the New York area since 1982 and have had the good fortune to perform with musicians like Kenny Barron, Barry Harris, Junior Cook, Ralph Lalama, Dennis Irwin, Vernel Fournier, Eric Alexander, Peter Leitch, Sam Yahel, Mark Elf, Roni Ben-Hur, Peter Bernstein, Matt Wilson, and many, many others.

I offer private instruction at my Brooklyn studio, and also teach at Hofstra University, Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and JazzMobile.

Why I love jazz:
Heard Sonny Stitt at the Smiling Dog Saloon in Cleveland in 1974 and it changed my life!
Music:
I dig all kinds of music, but especially jazz guitar. I've listened extensively to all the great classic jazz players (Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, Jim Hall, Pat Martino, Grant Green, Jimmy Raney, Barney Kessell, etc.) and the more contemporary players as well (John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, etc.). Lately, I've been spending time checking out the many wonderful young players on the current New York scene; Peter Bernstein, Jonathan Kriesberg, Lage Lund, Gilad Hekselman, Peter Mazza, and many others.

I also dig singers; Ella, Sarah, Billie, of course, and also Blossom Dearie, Bob Dorough, Dave Frishberg, Mose Allison, Eddie Jefferson, Mark Murphy, etc.

I subscribe to emusic and ALWAYS make sure I get my 90 downloads a month, I've also ripped my entire CD collection to MP3 and am starting on the LPs. With about 12,000 songs on the iPod, I just like to put it on random play in the car sometimes, so I get MANY nice suprises!
Top 5 Desert Island Discs:
Jim Hall "These Rooms"
Wes Montgomery "Complete Riverside Recordings"
Bill Evans "Complete Riverside Recordings"
Stan Getz with Jimmy Raney - Complete Roost Recordings
Thelonious Monk - Complete Riverside Recordings

May all those "completes" are cheating, but that's about as narrow as I can get it.
