Profile Information

First Name
Peter
College/University:
Bournemouth
I am here for:
Educational Purposes, Meet Players, Networking
Whom I want to meet:
Anyone who lives for, or loves music. There are just too many people now to list.
Employment Status
Self-Employed
Occupation:
Re-adjusting Musician at the moment, Private Hire and Taxis
Employer:
"Me" My former musians life and the freedom of Jazz have rendered me unemployable
About Me:
I worked for many years as as a gigging Guitar and Bass player playing some laid back jazz for dinner then anything from St Bernards waltz through to popular music for dance, cabaret, etc, in Hotels( Who Has'nt), also club jazz work mainly small group trio, quartet. I also worked as a relief player for 2 local agents (life on the edge but fun) until a drunk driver decided I should be in retirement for a while ( Perhaps He Didn't Like The Music) or (Maybe He Was The One I Advised Not To Sing Y.M.C.A. at a Cocktail Jazz Gig?) Hhmm!!! - At the moment I have a small taxi business that pays the bills, but I want to experience that connection with an audience and other players again.I am making progress toward that goal and as an offshoot hope to upload some tunes . I won't be good enough to out full time but it would be nice just to be there and involved again. In the meantime Sites like Jazz Player and Youtube are great therapy.I am meeting some amazing people and it's also keeping me up to speed with what is happening in jazz music. .
Musical Background & Experience:
Violin as a child, leader of school orchestra then local youth orchestra's
Royal school of music exams (external candidate)
Rebelled onto Guitar as a teenager then Bass playing Rock, Soul, Funk etc. Listened to jazz when possible it was not as available as in the USA.
Then self taught, school of life, playing and sitting in with some of the top local players, scary but necessary.

Why I love jazz:
To me Jazz Is Real Life, a fusion of experiences in and out of music. Some in the here and now, and some which resurface later when playing. Freedom of expression, also that special link in the moment with other players and listeners.
Music:
For me it is good to be like a sponge and absorb music from many sources ! So Anything from Bach and Ravel through to Drum and Bass and Gospel it all mixes to add more to flavour Jazz. Just Check Out My Youtube Pages And Check Their Links - I Hope You Will See What I mean :- www.youtube.com/user/peterskeys
Top 5 Desert Island Discs:
Wes Montgomery - Willow Weep For Me

Denise Donatelli - When Lights Are Low

Bill Evans - We Will Meet Again: The Anthology

Vince Mendoza - Epiphany

Al Jarreau - Look to the Rainbow
Books:
I spend so much time on the internet researching, it's like having a 24/7 University complete with Library and Lecturer's. So my home library is feeling a little neglected at the moment!
Television:
Unless it's a Concert or a Documentary I prefer video's on the internet or live music!
Movies:
Apart from movies with my son I tend to watch video's of the early masters of jazz. So much to learn and I have not even scratched the surface yet.

Hey Peter, any friend of Chips (even though I don't know him yet) is a friend of mine. Read you Bio and realy sorry to hear about your accident. Must be tough playing for so many years and now....
I've seen some increadable players over the years that you wouldn't think could do it but some how they figure out a way. Very inspireing. But you sound like a man that figured out a way to stay happy in the world of Jazz, good for you.
Saw you have Oberg and Emmanuel on your link to Youtube. I've recently seen both of them play at the All Star Guitar Night. I'm with Sony and I've sponsored that event for many years. Lots of great players out there....
