Whom I want to meet:
Players and vocalist of all types and styles
Employment Status
Self-Employed
Occupation:
Recording Engineer
Employer:
Audio by Byron
About Me:
I have played in the Dallas area for a lot of years.
Musical Background & Experience:
I first started out in the late 60’s working for Audio Graphics, as a jingle arranger. Since 1977 I have been in the recording industry, recording mixing and producing just about everything you can imagine. On the broadcast engineering side, I founded a company in 1977 called The Announcer Booth, later to be called Announcer Booth Studios. There I produced aired spots, industrials, filmstrips, slide shows, multi media shows, syndicated radio shows, recorded the Bible twice, recorded "Speak and Spell", "Speak and Math" for Texas Instruments and have even done video game music. I also have produced voice demos of all types such as commercial, industrial, character and religious. I lecture on the subject of “Demo’s” as well.
I have recorded such Dallas Cowboy football greats as Tom Landry, Tex Schram and Gene Stallings. Syndicated radio shows include, “The NFL Report”, “The Cowboy Report”, “The Kaye Johns Cooking Show” and “The Great American Race”. Actors and entertainers I have recorded include Barry Corbin, Gill Gerrard and Waylon Jennings.
In 1990 I moved my operation to a multi-track facility and formed a new company called Audio by Byron where I still work today. Since working there, I have recorded many band and orchestral sessions of all types and sizes to the mix.
Being in business for myself has allowed me to mark myself out on the studio calendar and work sound and music for rodeos for Grand Entry Productions. I have worked rodeos in several states including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and the National Finals Rodeo in Nevada.
I am really humbled in the audio field over the last three decades to have helped my clients win some 30 awards, four of which are from the Houston Film Festival.
On the music side I am a professional trumpet player. I have been a member of several groups and big bands including, UNT 1”O’clock Lab Band, Dallas County, Claude Gordon, Tommy Amador, Joe Reiman, Jack Melick, Ted Graham, Jimmy Dorsey, Les Elgart and Frank Sinatra impersonator, Paul Salos.
I am an original member of the Dallas Jazz Orchestra now called Dallas' Original Jazz Orchestra and served as co-leader and conductor for over a decade. I rejoined the DOJO in 2005 and currently play with this band each and every Sunday night. I have also been fortunate to have had the honor of recording and mixing there last 8 of their 14 CD’s on the market.
Music Entertainers I have backed in concert include, Chuck Berry, Sam “The Sham”, The Drifters, Barry White, Sammy Davis Jr., Rosemary Clooney, Billy Eckstine, Bob Hope, Nancy Wilson, Van Morrison, Doc Severinsen, The Four Tops, The Four Freshmen, The Temptations, Barry White, Brian Wilson, Mel Torme’, Yanni, Barry Mantilow and the Moody Blues.
Between my arranging, engineering and playing talents, The Lord has truly blessed me, and for that I honor him.
Why I love jazz:
" It is the true "American Music Art Form", Plus it is different evrytime you play the same tune.
Music:
Feel free to sample the cuts in my music folder. I just finished recording a project with a virtual unknown area vocalist, Drenda Barnett with Dallas' Original Jazz Orchestra. Just a 7 cut teaser. There are 13 cuts on the CD. Release should be late July or August of 09. Drenda won't be unknown for long.
Top 5 Desert Island Discs:
Miles Davis "Sketches of Spain"
Claus Ogerman "Gate of Dreams"
Peggy Lee "Blues Cross Country"
Terry Gibbs "Explosion"
Stan Kenton "Neophonic Orchestra"
Books:
Fake, arranging books
Television:
History Channel, Law and Order, CSI, NCIS

Thanx for the invite! Your bio reads much like thtat of a close bone-player bud of mine in Mass. Meanwhile, I'm just clearing my plate and preparing to re-enter the performance scene, myself. Glad to meet another Texan on here; 1-O'clock Lab Band, yet!
