- I traveled as a musician after graduating from college, but settled down after a couple of years to teach band in public schools. My principal instruments are the trombone, string and electric bass. I am 62, and I am a retired music educator.
- Musical Background & Experience:
- I have played in everything from rock bands, show bands, and symphonies. While living in the Alexandria Pineville area, I organized and directed (while playing the bass) a big band called Cenla Big Band. Most of my playing now is done on the string bass with a jazz group called Just Jazz. The website is www.itsjustjazz.com I am the one holding the bass, and the only one without a coat. Senior moment.
- Why I love jazz:
- Jazz involves freedom of expression that is unavailable in any other kind of music. It is an interplay of personalities that is constantly shifting and evolving. The performances will always be different depending on the moods of the players. Also, there is less rehearsal!! Traditonal music performance is supposed to be basically the same everytime. Get a recording! jazz music is alive and breathing, it laughs, cries, and is constantly being created, and recreated.
