Comment by John Cooper on April 7, 2012 at 2:10pm Serious about developing your improvising? Well, you can't speak creatively in a language that you are not articulate in. I've got a really comprehensive method that I've put together after teaching jazz for 34 years. Please check it out. Denis DiBlasio and many others have endorsed it, and jazz education programs are using it in 14 states.www.lineartransitions.com Thanks

Comment by Linda Landis on January 1, 2012 at 11:55pm Phil, I've had my student on the 1 1/2G since my last post and he's doing great. He's been getting excellent comments on his sound since the switch. I think we'll stick with it for now. Thanks, Phil :)
Keep swingin!
Comment by Linda Landis on September 6, 2011 at 12:02am Hi, Phil! Thanks for your input. I'll switch him to the 1 1/2G for awhile and see if he adjusts a bit better while I check out the Doug Yeo. I've heard good things about the Yeo from friends of mine who play bass bone all the time.
I just tried out the 1 1/4GM my friend loaned me Saturday night and it's really nice...quite big for me but it has a great sound. When I switch back the 1 1/2 G, it sounds small by comparison. Interesting. I'll see how he does on the 1 1/2G for now.
Thanks again and keep swingin'!
Hi LInda! I recommend the 1 1/G to a lot of students, especially if they are just switching to bass trombone - in particular from a 6 1/2 AL on tenor. I am not familiar with the 1 1/2 GM, just the 1 1/2 G. I used the 1 1/2 G for a few years in college, then moved to a Schilke 60 which has less resistance in the low register.
Very recently I have moved to the Doug Yeo model mouthpiece, it is basically a copy of the Schilke 60 with enhancements that improve on the original design, in particular improving resonance and sound in extreme upper register as well as a nice presence and focus all over the horn. I would recommend that highly to anyone, it is now my favorite. YAMAHA makes it, and it probably is available at the woodwind/brasswind website.
